Hundreds of potential golf club members enjoyed the chance to give golf a go at the Golf Live celebrity event held at Celtic Manor over the weekend.

Celebrities and families took the opportunty to mix with the New2Golf mascots, with more than 100 people signing up to join the scheme and being pointed towards their local participating clubs.

Curtis Cup star Amy Boulden continued her strong start to the season with a first victory in the Welsh Ladies Open Strokeplay Championship at the Vale of Glamorgan, helping Wales to the team title.

Fellow Welsh international Sam Birks was third to continue a strong showing for the home players, up against a strong field from all round the UK, Ireland and Europe. England's Alex Peters was second with Scot Jessica Meek fourth.

Tim tipped for top

Teenager Tim Harry has been tipped for the top after becoming the youngest ever winner of the Duncan Putter at Southerndown, by Wales national coach Neil Matthews.

For it was not just the fact the Vale of Glamorgan player claimed the title at the age of 15 against some of the best amateur players in Britain and Ireland, but the way in which he did it after losing a big lead and then bouncing back to snatch victory.

This annual Home Nations event pits some of the best teams from England, Scotland, Ireland and Wales.   This year the event was played at the challenging Antequera Golf course, set in the mountains north of Malaga, Spain

Wales were represented by The Vale Resort, as Welsh Champions and St Pierre as runners up at the Welsh Junior Inter Club final held at Builth Wells last October.

During the 19 years that the tournament has been running never before has a Welsh team got to the final. This year there were two!!!

Bad weather had plagued the event all week but with fine exhibitions of golf both teams overcame stiff opposition to reach the final. With heavy rain forecast it was decided to play the final after the last pool matches had finished. It was agreed before going out that if bad light or bad weather stopped play the then current state of the match would stand. Wales claim victory over Irish

 

Wales Under 18 Boys team have won the Cardigan Cup by beating Ireland 11-9, with Vale of Glamorgan's Tim Harry and Wrexham's Tom Williams both unbeaten.

Cradoc's Charlie Spencer-White, who flew over from America specially to play for his country, made the lengthy journey worthwhile as he won two out of his three matches in the event played in Rosslare in Ireland.

Wrexham's Chloe Williams led Wales to third place in the European Nations Cup, while finishing second in her own right at Sotogrande on Spain's Costa Del Sol.

It was a highly impressive result for the Wales ladies team up against many of the best players in Europe with teams from all the larger countries, with Spain winning both the individual and team titles.
