Here are some comments from those who attended:-

“I would like to put on record my view that the roadshow I attended at Llandrindod was excellent in every way; and it was only some 80 minutes from Woodlake Park”

Mike Wood, Secretary/Proprietor Woodlake Park GC

“Thanks for a great roadshow yesterday. Both Mike and I found it very beneficial and it also re-emphasised the importance of some things we used to do more of, which we have erroneously neglected”.

Martin Lane, Proprietor, Glyn Abbey GC

“The Seminar was an eye opener in a lot of respects, particularly the need to capture visitor data and communicate with visitors in a cost effective manner i.e. by e-mails.

I also liked the session on web sites and our best to set them up, use them and monitor whether you are obtaining the results you seek.

Many thanks to all at the GUW / GDW who set up the seminars and to Jane and Kate of Gemini Network media for fronting the day”

Dave Brayshaw, Secretary Plassey GC

"A very informative day, with lots of food for thought for  clubs. An extremely worthwhile day. The CD made it so much easier to remember everything afterwards, and also meeting so many others and exchanging views was beneficial as well.

Iris Brown, Abersoch GC

The GUW and GDW put on a really informative road show at Llandrindod, all the speakers spoke extremely well and their material was particularly relevant to the situations that all clubs in the UK and more importantly Wales are going through at this present time. I personally thought the road show was excellent!

James Morgan, Director of Golf, Alice Springs Golf Club

“I just wanted to say how impressed I was with the GUW roadshow held at Morriston GC last Thursday and to congratulate those involved. One of the best seminars I have been to for a long time!

I have heard Jane Carter speak on several occasions now and have always been impressed. What was particularly noticeable on Thursday, however, was a shift in emphasis away from our membership problems towards visitor data gathering - a sure reflection on current trends! The One Golf Network tee time marketing idea also looks very worthwhile - I hope it is well supported and proves to be a success.

Above all I think there is growing evidence that GUW is taking a more active interest in the well-being of golf clubs generally: no longer can it be accused of just concerning itself with elite golf. These roadshows, together with the various initiatives under Golf Development Wales, illustrate this clearly. I have also been impressed with the response of the Executive to the GUW Golf Club Survey (to download a copy click GUW Club Survey 2009 Exec Summary ). The Summary document with its blue / green colour-coding is a good example of the 'Issue > Action' approach (despite those confusing pie charts!) I look forward to receiving the 'Retention and Recruitment Toolkit' when it becomes available.

My only criticism is of the Clubs themselves. Where were they? They don't know what they are missing! In these difficult times you would expect more Clubs to respond to initiatives like these as they try to safeguard their Clubs' futures. I hope the GUW will not be discouraged by the rather disappointing attendance level and will continue its good work on behalf of Golf Clubs in Wales.

Alan Hughes, Secretary/Manager, Southerndown GC

“I found the GUW Seminar on Wednesday last to be really useful. It built on the principles outlined in last year’s Roadshows and gave a whole host of ideas, practical examples and reminders as to what we could or should be doing!  Jane Carter was excellent – widely experienced, well informed and very easy to listen to. I look forward to the next season of seminars. Thanks.”

Paul Bloxidge, Marketing Committee, Aberdovey Golf Club

‘Having attended the Marketing, Membership Recruitment and Retention Seminars organised by the Golf Union of Wales, I can say categorically that those clubs which did not attend have missed out on valuable information and ideas to help us all through a very difficult period for Golf. Well done GUW, and lets have more of the same!'

Phil Davies, Secretary, Llandrindod Wells GC

"We have made a conscious effort in the last year to take advantage of the fantastic opportunities and initiatives that the GUW have implemented or endorsed. These have included, Legacy funds, Junior accreditation schemes, Rules schools, and in particular the Recruitment and Retention Roadshows. In light of the current economic climate, any golf club that has declined the invitations to attend these excellent and informative presentations has really missed a trick"

David Hancock, Secretary, Tenby Golf Club

“Yesterday’s seminar was excellent.”

Trefor Davies, Secretary/Manager, Royal St David’s GC

The Golf Union of Wales sponsored "Recruitment and Retention" seminar was extremely informative and gave many practical ideas for collection of data and the organisation of effective promotions to potential members and visitors.

I was so impressed by some of the ideas, that I have asked Jane Carter to make her presentation to all the "front line" staff at Cradock Golf Club and am confident that this will help us maximise our effectiveness and increase membership and visitor income.

Robert Southcott, Manager, Cradoc GC
