Golf Union of Wales has authority to restrict the competitions that may be recognised for handicap purposes. The GUW has decided that only the following events shall be recognised as Qualifying Competitions by Handicapping Authorities in Wales.

The Golf Union of Wales.
Ladies’ Golf Union.
England Golf
The Irish Ladies’ Golf Union.
The Golfing Union of Ireland.
The Scottish Ladies’ Golfing Association.
The Scottish Golf Union.
Welsh County Associations/Unions (and their equivalent in England, Ireland and Scotland).
Welsh Regional Associations (and their equivalent in England, Ireland and Scotland).
Member Clubs of the GUW and clubs affiliated to the National Unions/Associations of England, Ireland and Scotland.
The National Unions of Countries affiliated to the Ladies’ Golf Union and using the CONGU Unified Handicapping System (this does not include Associate Members of the LGU).
Welsh Girls’/Boys’ Regional Associations.
Welsh Schools’ Golf Association.
Three Counties Ladies' Golf League.
B. Other Events and Championships as follows:
National Championships of the Armed Services, Police and Civil Service.
Army Ladies’ Golf Association Open Stableford / Open Medal / Open Stroke Play.

Note 1
To be recognised as a Qualifying Competition the event must be covered by one of the categories above and satisfy the requirements of Qualifying Competition and Competition Play Conditions (see Definitions CONGU UHS Manual) of the System. Scores returned in overseas tournaments,other than those indicated above, may only be considered, if appropriate, under the terms of clause 23.
Note 2
Organisers of events covered by A & B must display a notice advising competitors:
a)
if, for any reason, the event is not a Qualifying Competition (e.g. it is not being played over a measured course)
b)
of the CSS as determined by clause 18 of the System as soon as possible
Note 3
The organisers of events within Category B must ensure that:
1.
The event is played over a measured course as defined by the System
2.
The CSS is correctly calculated in accordance with clause 18 of the System
3.
The event complies with all the criteria for a round to be qualifying in accordance with the CONGU Unified Handicapping System
Note 4
All Clubs at which a player is a member together with organisers of events in Category B and those Clubs staging an Open Qualifying Competition are requestedto send score and CSS details to the Home Club of all competitors as soon as possible after an event. (NB Clubs registered on the CDH will have scores returned electronically) This does not absolve the player from the responsibility of returning all his/her away Qualifying Scores.

Organisers of events wishing to be considered for inclusion in this list should apply to the GUW no later than 30th November for inclusion the following year.
There will be no necessity for any Society/Organisation already authorised under Category B to re-apply annually. However, the GUW does require notification if the Society/Organisation no longer wishes to stage Qualifying Competitions.
The GUW reserves the right to remove from the list any Society/ Organisation which has not fulfilled its responsibilities under the above clauses.
