PINNACLE Order of Merit 2012

The top seven in the Pinnacle Order of Merit at close of play on 4 August 2012 will be selected to represent Wales in the 2012 Home International Series to be played at Gailes Links, Glasgow, 15 - 17 August 2012.

JONES WINS CLWYD

 

At the Clwyd Open Will Jones (Oswestry) took the honours with a five stroke victory over Nick Lofthouse (Conwy) and Otto Mand (Greenmeadow) who tied 2nd.  Jones shot rounds of 67, 69, 73 and 73 to collect 100 Pinnacle points.

 

Lofthouse (71, 71, 70 and 75) and Mand (74, 70, 69 and 74) each gained 50 Pinnacle points followed by Richard Bentham (St Pierre) with 30 points and Rhodri Fieldhouse (Wrexham) with 25.

 

Ben Westgate (Trevose) still holds a clear lead at the top of the Pinnacle table.

 

The next Pinnacle Order of Merit event is the Welsh Open Stroke Play at Prestatyn from 25-27 May.

WESTGATE THIRD AT LYTHAM

 

Ben Westgate (Trevose) played some superb golf to finish in 3rd place at the Lytham Trophy after rounds of 68, 74, 75 and 68 to collect 200 Pinnacle Order of Merit points.  These points help stretch Westgate’s lead at the top of the overall standings from Luke Thomas (Pontypridd) in 2nd.

 

James Frazer (Pennard) also finished a creditable tied 11th with rounds of 72, 70, 74 and 73 to take 88 Pinnacle points.  Frazer now lies in third place on the Pinnacle table.

 

 

 

THOMAS AND JONES SHARE THE SPOILS

 

 

Luke Thomas (Pontypridd) and Lee Jones (Conwy) were the best placed Welsh players at the weather affected Trubshaw Cup at the weekend.  Both players were tied 2nd with rounds of 76 and 73 before the poor weather led to the cancellation of the second days play at Ashburnham.  Thomas and Jones gain 32.5 Pinnacle Order of Merit points.

 

The next best placed Welsh players were Alex Baker (Vale of Glamorgan), Ben Westgate (Trevose) and Craig Melding (Neath) all in tied 5th who claim 16.66 Pinnacle points.  Delon Hau (Vale of Glamorgan), Brent O’Neill (Radyr) and Rhodri Fieldhouse (Wrexham) were all tied 8th and receive 11.66 points.

 

NOTE :  Due to the cancellation of play before day 2 of the Trubshaw it was decided to award 50% of the usual Hugh James Order of Merit points for the event.

 

 

WESTGATE AND THOMAS SHARE THE DUNCAN PUTTER

 

Ben Westgate (Trevose and Southerndown) and Luke Thomas (Pontypridd) shared victory at the Duncan Putter with rounds of 71, 72, 66, 71 and 77, 68, 67, 68 respectively for a two stroke victory over Farrington’s Craig Adams.  This was the first 2012 Pinnacle Order of Merit title and both players claim 120 Pinnacle points to lead the Order of Merit.

 

David Boote (Walton Heath) was the next best Welsh finisher in 9th place with rounds of 78, 68, 75, and 68 and ends with 23 Order of Merit points.

 

Promising performances came from Wales’ juniors; Otto Mand (Greenmeadow) tied 14th and Delon Hau (Vale of Glamorgan) tied 16th.
