DAVIES WINS PING ORDER OF MERIT

 

Tara Davies (Holyhead) wins the PING Ladies Order of merit for 2009 after holding off the season long challenge with Rhian Wyn Thomas (Vale of Glamorgan).

 

Five Welsh players made the cut at the Ladies British Open Amateur Stroke Play at Royal Aberdeen. Gemma Bradbury (Cottrell Park) was Wales’ leading player finishing in a tie for 15th after rounds of 78, 77, 79 and 79 to score 75.5 PING points. Amy Boulden (Llandudno, Maesdu) finished in 21st place on 316 strokes and collects 61 PING points. The other Welsh qualifiers were Katherine O’Connor and Rhian Wyn Thomas who tied for 38th and Tara Davies who retired, all three collect 50 PING points.

 

At the European Individual in Falsterbo, Sweden, Rhian Wyn Thomas tied for 32nd after rounds of 73, 79, 73 and 82 and collects 58 PING points while Amy Boulden made the cut finishing in a tie for 54th and collects 50 PING points.

 

Beth Davies (Mold) was the only Welsh player to collect PING points at the Royal Birkdale Ladies Scratch Trophy finishing in a tie for 8th place and collects 16 PING points.

BIRKS QUALIFIES AT ENGLISH

 

Sam Birks (Wolstanton) finished in a tie for 33rd at the inaugural English Women’s Open Stroke Play Championship at Enmore Park.  Birks was the only Welsh player to make the cut and scored rounds of 78, 77, 85 and 77 to finish on 317.

 

Birks collects 50 PING points for her efforts and moves into 4th place on the PING Ladies Order of Merit.

 

Tara Davies (Holyhead) retains her place at the top of the PING Order of Merit with Rhian Wyn Thomas (Vale of Glamorgan) in 2nd place.

 

 

 

O’CONNOR WINS AT JACKSON

 

Katherine O’Connor (Tadmarton Heath) has won her 2nd PING Ladies Order of merit of the season at the Bridget Jackson Bowl. O’Connor’s rounds of 72 and 68 gave the Welsh International a five stroke victory over Elizabeth Mallett of Sutton Coldfield. O’Connor collects 100 PING points

 

Becky Harries (Haverfordwest) finished in 5th place after rounds of 71 and 76 and collects 25 PING points while Sam Birks (Wolstanton) finished in a tie for 11th after scoring 74 and 78. Sam collects 8.33 PING points.

 

Tara Davies (Holyhead) retains her place at the top of the PING Order of Merit with Rhian Wyn Thomas (Vale of Glamorgan) in 2nd place.

 

 

 

BOULDEN 2ND AT PLEASINGTON

 

Amy Boulden (Llandudno, Maesdu) finished in 2nd place at the Pleasington Putter after rounds of 71 and 72. Boulden finished just one stroke behind the winner, Corisande Lee of West Lancashire who scored rounds of 69 and 73.

 

Boulden’s 2nd place finish gains her 60 PING points and she moves into 3rd place on the PING Ladies Order of Merit.

 

Tara Davies (Holyhead) retains her place at the top of the PING Order of Merit with Rhian Wyn Thomas (Vale of Glamorgan) in 2nd place.

 

 

 

ALL 4 WELSH PLAYERS MAKE CUT AT IRISH

 

Tara Davies (Holyhead) put the disappointment of the Ladies British Amateur behind her to be the leading Welsh player at the Irish Womens Open Stroke Play at Douglas over the weekend. Davies shot rounds of 74, 75 and 77 to finish in 13th place and collect 88 PING points.

 

Rhian Wyn Thomas (Vale of Glamorgan) finished in a tie for 23rd after rounds of 79, 74 and 77, Amy Boulden (Llandudno, Maesdu) scored rounds of 81, 77 and 76 for tied 34th and Gemma Bradbury finished in 37th place after rounds of 78, 77 and 80. All three players collect 50 PING points after making the cut at Douglas.

 

Tara Davies (Holyhead) now moves of 100 points clear at the top of the PING Order of Merit.

 

 

Rhian Reaches Quarters of British

 

Rhian Wyn Thomas (Vale of Glamorgan) continued her excellent form reaching the quarter finals of the Ladies British Open Amateur Championship at Royal St David’s. Thomas qualified for the match play stages comfortably but finally lost out to Azahara Munoz by 2&1. Rhian collects 170 PING points for reaching the last 8 of the British and has closed the gap on Tara Davies to less than 70 points.

 

Sam Birks (Wolstanton) also made it through the match play stages but then lost out to Ellie Robinson on the final green in a tense match. Birks collects 50 PING points to boost her total and move into 4th place on the PING list. Also making it through after a 9 way play off was Katherine O’Connor (Tadmarton Heath) and was then up against the 2nd seed Azahara Munoz from Spain. O’Connor led for the majority and was 2 up with 3 to play but finally succumbed on the 2nd extra hole. O’Connor also collects 50 PING points to move into 3rd place on the PING Order of Merit.

 

Despite missing the cut at the British, Tara Davies (Holyhead) retains her position at No 1 on the PING Order of Merit.

 

JENKINS 6TH AT ASTOR SALVER

 

Hannah Jenkins (Cradoc) shot rounds of 72, 70 to finish in a tie for 6th at the Astor Salver. Jenkins collects 18 PING points and moves into 6th place on the PING Ladies Order of Merit.

 

Tara Davies retains her position at the top of the PING Ladies Order of Merit.

 

DAVIES TIED 8TH AT ST RULE TROPHY

Tara Davies (Holyhead) led the Welsh players at the St Rule Trophy at St Andrews. Davies scored rounds of 77, 76 and 77 to finish in a tie for 8th place and collects 96.33 PING points.

 

Rhian Wyn Thomas (Vale of Glamorgan) tied for 11th after rounds of 80, 74 and 77 and collects 88 PING points while Sam Birks (Wolstanton) was the only other Welsh player to make the cut and finished in 26th place and collects 50 PING points.

 

Tara Davies has increased her lead at the top of the PING Ladies Order of Merit to over 200 points.

 


O’CONNOR WINS AT FRILFORD HEATH

 

Katherine O’Connor (Tadmarton Heath) won the Frilford Heath Scratch Salver by a devastating 9 strokes. O’Connor scored rounds of 69 and 71 and collects 100 PING points which moves her into 5th place on the PING Ladies Order of Merit

 

Lucy Gould (Bargoed) who finished runner–up at the Welsh Close Championship last week continued her good run of form at the Crichley Salver scoring rounds of 78 and 74 to finish in 5th place and collects 25 PING Order of Merit points. Gould moves up to 4th in the table.

 

Tara Davies retains her position at the top of the PING Ladies Order of Merit.

 


DAVIES WELSH CHAMPION

Tara Davies (Holyhead) continued her excellent season by winning the Welsh Ladies Close Championship at Aberdovey. Davies defeated Lucy Gould by 4 & 3 in the final and adds 200 PING points to her Order of Merit total.

Lucy Gould (Bargoed) finished runner–up after returning from college in the USA and gains her first PING points of the season.

Rhian Wyn Thomas (Vale of Glamorgan) and Gemma Bradbury (Cottrell Park) narrowly lost out in the semi finals on the last hole but collect 60 PING points apiece for their efforts.

Tara Davies increases her lead at the top of the PING Ladies Order of Merit.


DAVIES 3rd AT WELSH OPEN

Tara Davies (Holyhead) shot rounds of 72, 76 and 80 to finish in 3rd place on 3 over par at the Welsh Ladies Open Stroke Play Championship at Royal Porthcawl. Davies was the top Welsh player finishing five strokes behind winner Danielle McVeigh.

Davies collects 100 PING points and increases her lead at the top of the PING Ladies Order of Merit.

Gemma Bradbury (Cottrell Park) finished in a tie for 6th place after rounds of 74, 78 and 80, seven over par and collects 56.75 PING points which lifts her into 7th place on the PING Order of Merit.

Other players collecting PING points at the Welsh Ladies Stroke Play were Stephanie Evans (Vale of Llangollen) tied 10th and Amy Boulden (Llandudno, Maesdu) and Rhian Wyn Thomas (Vale of Glamorgan) who both finished in a tie for 14th.

Tara Davies retains her spot at the top of the PING Ladies Order of Merit.

 

DAVIES 5TH AT HELEN HOLM

Tara Davies (Holyhead) shot rounds of 77, 71 and 75 to finish in a tie for 5th at the Helen Holm Trophy at Troon over the weekend. Finishing on two under par Davies was four strokes adrift of Leona Maguire of Ireland. Davies collects 127.5 PING Points.

Rhian Wyn Thomas (Vale of Glamorgan) finished in a tie for 10th on one over par and gets 90.33 PING points while Cradoc’s Hannah Jenkins tied for 28th and adds 54.2 points to her PING total.

All in all it was good weekend as Wales won the Team event at the Helen Holm and Sam Birks (Wolstanton) tied 34th and Amy Boulden (Llandudno, Maesdu) 50th.Both players collect 50 PING points.

EVANS WINS AT TENBY

Stephanie Evans (Vale of Llangollen) won the Tenby Ladies Scratch at the weekend with scores of 73 and 73 for a one shot victory over Rhian Wyn Thomas (Vale of Glamorgan) and each player collects 100 and 60 PING Ladies Order of Merit points respectively.

Tara Davies came in 3rd with scores of 73 and 76 and adds 40 points to her PING total while Anna Carling (Vale of Glamorgan) and Amy Boulden (Llandudno, Maesdu) tied for 4th and collect 27.5 PING points.

Hannah Jenkins was the only Welsh player to score PING points at the Whittington Trophy, finishing in 10th place and collecting 14 points.

Stephanie Evans leads the way in the PING Ladies Order of Merit.

DAVIES AND GOBEY 11th AT LEVERETT

Holyhead’s Tara Davies and Rhondda’s Natasha Gobey tied 11th at the opening event on the PING Ladies Order of Merit. Davies Scored rounds of 77 and 77 while Gobey scored 79 and 75 to finish tied in 11th place.

Both Davies and Gobey earned 5 points each and lead the table.
