JUNIOR BOYS ORDER OF MERIT 2007
ENOCH WINS JUNIOR ORDER OF MERIT
After a season of consistent performances, Ben Enoch (Truro) has won the Golf Union of Wales Junior Order of Merit. Enoch was 4th at the Central Wales Boys, had two top 10 finishes at the Aberconwy and Clwyd and then finished runner up at the Welsh Boys Stroke Play and the Welsh Boys Championship.
At the British Boys it was Jamie Howie (Royal St David’s) who continued his excellent form from the Gold Cross and Welsh Amateur to reach the last 16, while Matthew Phythian (Rhondda) and Chris Parsons (TredegarPark) both reached the last 32.

VICKERY DOES THE DOUBLE
Joe Vickery (Newport) delivered a superb performance at the Welsh Boys Championship, winning the Stroke Play with scores of 68 and 75 for a one stroke victory over Ben Enoch (Truro).
In the match play stages Vickery progressed by beating Robin Hughes (Betws y Coed), Luke Jackson (Mold) and Gareth Evans (Wrexham) while Enoch defeated Matthew Mosely (Carmarthen), Anthony Cadwallader ((West Mon) and Ross McLister (Cardiff).
Ben Enoch just keeps his lead following Vickery’s victory’s in the Stroke Play and Match Play by just over a single point.
HOWIE 2ND AT GOLD CROSS
Jamie Howie from Royal St David’s produced a wonderful performance at the St David’s Gold Cross finishing in 2nd place behind Craig Evans and collects 100 Junior Order of Merit points.
Howie was a model of consistency with rounds of 71, 71, 70 and 71 to finish in a tie with Luke Thomas of the Vale of Glamorgan. Other juniors to score Order of Merit points were Ben Enoch (17th) and Sam Morgan from Tenby who tied for 18th. Enoch now heads the table from Rhys Pugh with Howie in 3rd.
At the South Wales Boys Stroke Play, Cardiff’s Ross McLister returned scores of 72 and 74 for a one stroke victory over Tom Phillips (St Mellons)
Bentham, McLister and Phythian at Tucker
Richard Bentham (Celtic Manor), Ross McLister (Cardiff) and Matthew Phythian (Rhondda) were the top juniors at the Tucker Trophy at the weekend finishing in 9th, 12th and 18th respectively.
PUGH STILL ON TOP
Rhys Pugh retains the top spot on the Golf Union of Wales Junior Order of Merit after finishing in a tie for 15th place at the Aberconwy Trophy and adding 15.2 points to his total.
Ben Enoch (Truro) finished in a tie for 9th while Nick Lofthouse was the only other Junior to add points to his total finishing tied with Pugh in 15th.
The next event is the Tucker Trophy at Whitchurch and Newport (Gwent) Golf Clubs on 14/15 July.
PUGH RETAINS TOP SPOT
Rhys Pugh retains the top spot on the Golf Union of Wales Junior Order of Merit despite missing the cut at the Welsh Open Youths.
Joe Vickery (Newport) scores 22 points after finishing in a tie for 9th while Ben Enoch adds 17.5 points to his total after tying for 12th. Enoch retains 2nd place in the table while Vickery moves up to 4th place
The next event is the Welsh Open Youths Championship at Whitchurch Golf Club on 2/3 June.
ENOCH TOP JUNIOR AT STROKE PLAY
Ben Enoch of Truro was the only Junior to make the cut at the Welsh Open Stroke Play at Machynys and adds 50 Junior Order of Merit points to his total taking him into 2nd place on the table.
Rhys Pugh of the Vale of Glamorgan retains top spot on the list after his win at the Clwyd Open.
The next event is the Welsh Open Youths Championship at Whitchurch Golf Club on 2/3 June.
GREEN WINS NORTH WALES BOYS OPEN
Josh Green (Clays) won his first Golf Union of Wales Junior Order of Merit event at the North Wales Boys Open. Green held off the challenge of two experienced campaigners, Joe Vickery (Newport) and Ben Enoch (Truro) by three strokes.
Green collects 100 Junior Order of Merit points to put him in 2nd place on the Order of Merit list, however, the leader remains 13 year old Rhys Pugh from the Vale of Glamorgan who followed up last week’s win with 5th place.
The next event is the Welsh Open Stroke Play Championship at Machynys Peninsula Golf Club from 25 – 27 May.
PUGH BREAKS RECORD AT CLWYD
Rhys Pugh at 13 years old from the Vale of Glamorgan became the youngest winner of an Order of Merit event when he claimed the Clwyd Open by a single stroke over the defending champion Stuart Runcie (Abergele). Pugh breaks the record of his clubmate Zac Gould who had won the St David’s Gold Cross at 16.
Pugh collects 150 Junior Order of Merit points and sails into a healthy lead at the top of the table. Other juniors to score points at the Clwyd were Joshua Green (Clays), Ben Enoch (Truro) tying for 10th as well as Alyn Torrence (15th) and Nick Lofthouse and James Morgan who tied for 16th.
HOWIE AND MCLISTER SCORE POINTS AT TRUBSHAW
Jamie Howie of Royal St David’s was the top Junior finisher at the Trubshaw Cup finishing in a tie for 16th place gaining 15 Order of Merit points taking him clear at the top of the table. Cardiff’s Ross McLister showed up well over the weekend at Ashburnham and Tenby by claiming a tie for 19th place.
VICKERY TIES FOR 29TH AT McEVOY
Joe Vickery (Newport) tied for 29th place at the Peter McEvoy Trophy at Copt Heath. Vickery gains his first Order of Merit points of the season and was the only Welshman to make the cut.
EVANS AND HOWIE TIE AT CENTRAL WALES
Lloyd Evans (Wenvoe Castle) and Jamie Howie (Royal St David’s) tied for 1st place at the Central Wales Boys Open and both players collect 40 points on the Golf Union of Wales Junior Order of Merit.
In third place came Chris Nugent from Frilford Heath, Ben Enoch (Truro) finished 4th after leading through day one.
The next event is the Peter McEvoy Trophy at Copt Heath Golf Club on 18/19 April.
