NUGENT WINS HUGH JAMES ORDER OF MERIT

 

Despite not scoring any Hugh James points at the British Boys, Chris Nugent (Fulford Heath) is the runaway winner of the Hugh James Boys Order of Merit for 2009.

 

Nugent, the Welsh Boys Stroke Play and Match Play Champion amassed his haul of points throughout a consistent season which saw him challenge for victories in every Boys event he competed both in and outside of Wales.

 

Rhys Pugh (Vale of Glamorgan) added 40 Hugh James points to his total and finishes the season in 2nd place on the Order of Merit after his victory at the Aberconwy Trophy in June.

BLEASE REACHES SEMI FINALS

 

Gareth Blease (Burhill) was in excellent form at the Welsh Amateur Championship at Southerndown reaching the semi finals before being knocked out by Rhys Enoch (Truro) on the final green. Blease collects 160 Hugh James points for his efforts and moves into 7th place on the Hugh James Order of Merit.

 

Jack Bush (Morlais Castle) continued his excellent summer by reaching the last 16 before losing out to the eventual Champion Luke Thomas.

 

Other juniors to collect points at the Welsh Amateur Championship were Nathan Chilcott (Southerndown) who reached the last 16 and collects 60 points, Richard James (Aberystwyth), Rhodri Fieldhouse (Wrexham) and Lloyd Martinson (Royal Porthcawl) who all collect 40 Hugh James points.

 

DOUBLE FOR NUGENT

 

Chris Nugent (Fulford Heath) did the double at the Welsh Boys Championship at the Royal Town of Caernarfon this week, winning the Welsh Boys Stroke Play and then following up and winning the Welsh Boys Championship. Nugent collects 400 Hugh James points for winning both titles.

 

On the way to becoming Champion Nugent scored rounds of 67 and 72 to win the Stroke Play title from Rhodri Fiedhouse (Wrexham) and then progressed through the match play championship defeating Richard James (Aberystwyth), Ross McLister (Cardiff), Craig Melding (Neath) before beating Jack Bush (Morlais Castle) on the final green.

 

Bush wins South Wales Boys

 

Jack Bush (Morlais Castle) won the South Wales Boys Championship at Newport Links. Bush defeated Michael Evans (Clays) in the final by 3 & 2. On the way to the final Bush was victorious over Ross McLister (Cardiff), Lewys Bishop (Vale of Glamorgan) and Delon Hau (Vale of Glamorgan). Bush collects 106.25 Hugh James Order of Merit points for his victory and his tie for 11th in the South Wales Boys Open Stroke Play.

 

The South Wales Boys Open Stroke Play was won by Calum Roberts (Curzon Park) with rounds of 79 and 72 with Rhodri Fieldhouse (Wrexham), Zach Galliford (Borth & Ynyslas) and Lewys Bishop (Vale of Glamorgan) all finishing in a tie for 2nd place. Roberts collects 100 Hugh James points while Fieldhouse, Galliford and Bishop all collect 43.33 points.

 

At the St David’s Gold Cross Chris Nugent (Fulford Heath) was the top junior finishing in a tie for 7th after rounds of 69, 74, 73 and 73 and collects 36 Hugh James points. Ross McLister (Cardiff) finished in a tie for 14th after rounds of 75, 74, 77 and 69 and collects 18 points.

 

Rhys Pugh remains at the top of the Hugh James Boys Order of Merit.

 

 

EVANS 10TH AT TUCKER

 

 

Michael Evans (Clays) finished in a tie for 10th place at the Tucker Trophy after a closing round of 66. Evans rounds of 72, 80, 73 and 66 earn him 27 Hugh James points and take him into 6th place on the Order of Merit.

 

Other juniors to collect points at the Tucker were Rhodri Fieldhouse (Wrexham) and Ross McLister (Cardiff) who both tied for 14th place and Patrick Mullins (Whitchurch) who tied for 17th and they collect 18, 18 and 14 Hugh James points respectively.

 

Rhys Pugh remains at the top of the Hugh James Boys Order of Merit.

 

 

PUGH WINS ABERCONWY

 

 

Rhys Pugh (Vale of Glamorgan) won the Aberconwy Trophy at Conwy and Maesdu at the weekend with rounds of 76, 73, 71 and 70 and collects 200 Hugh James points. Pugh was five strokes clear of his nearest challenger Richard Hooper (Neath).

 

Oliver Baker (Cardiff) was the next best placed junior who finished in 7th place after rounds of 78, 76, 71 and 78 and collects 38 Hugh James points. Michael Evans (Clays) continued his consistent play finishing in a tie for 8th place and collects 15.33 Hugh James points.

 

 

  PUGH 6TH AT YOUTHS

 

 

Rhys Pugh (Vale of Glamorgan) was the top Welsh junior at the Welsh Open Youths at Radyr finishing in a tie for 6th place. Pugh scored rounds of 70, 69, 74 and 71 for a four round total of 284 strokes, 8 over par. Pugh collects 41 Hugh James points which keeps him in 3rd place on the Hugh James Boys Order of Merit.

 

Paddy Mullins (Whitchurch) showed some good form throughout the weekend with rounds of 69, 74, 68 and 79 to finish in a tie for 12th place and collects 22 Hugh James points while current Hugh James Order of merit leader Chris Nugent (Fulford Heath) finished in a tie for 15th and collects 15.75 points.

 

Alastair Jones (Radyr) won the Welsh Open Youths Championship on his return from  college in the US.

 

 

NO JUNIORS MAKE CUT AT STROKE PLAY

 

 

None of Wales’ junior golfers who competed during at the Welsh Open Stroke Play at Ashburnham made the cut.

 

The Hugh James Boys Order of Merit remains unchanged.

 


PARRY AND NUGENT TIE AT NORTH WALES BOYS OPEN

 

 

Mark Parry (Holyhead) and Chris Nugent (Fulford Heath) tied for the North Wales Boys Open at Rhuddlan and Abergele. Parry scored rounds of 74, 71, 72 and 76 while Nugent scored rounds of 74, 70, 70 and 79. Parry and Nugent collect 120 Hugh James Order of Merit points each.

 

Richard James (Aberystwyth) showed well with rounds of 72, 71, 79 and 77 to finish in 3rd place and collects 60 Hugh James points while Clwyd Open Champion Luke Jackson tied for 4th alongside Michael Evans (Clays).

 

Chris Nugent moves back to the No1 spot on the Order of Merit while Parry moves into 4th.


JACKSON WINS CLWYD

 

Luke Jackson (Mold) was victorious at the Clwyd Open at the weekend. Jackson scored rounds of 74, 73, 72 and 71 to become the third junior golfer in succession to win the Clwyd. Jackson collects 200 Hugh James points and goes to the top of the Hugh James Boys Order of Merit.

Other juniors making an impression at the Clwyd were 2007 Champion Rhys Pugh (Vale of Glamorgan) who tied for 5th and collects 47 Hugh James points, Matthew Moseley (Carmarthen) tied for 13th, Nathan Chilcott (Southerndown) finished in 19th spot and collects his first Order of Merit points of the season and also Michael Evans (Clays) who tied 20th and adds 12 points to his total.

NUGENT 4TH AT FAIRHAVEN

 

Chris Nugent (Fulford Heath) scored rounds of 72, 73, 74 and 73 to finish in a tie for 6th place on 4 under par. Nugent collects 61.5 Hugh James points and increases his lead at the top of the Order of Merit.

Rhodri Harston (Felixstowe Ferry) and Rhys Pugh (Vale of Glamorgan) finished in a tie for 24th and each collect 6.2 Hugh James points. Harston scored rounds of 71, 77, 77 and 76 while Pugh scored rounds 75, 75, 71 and 80.

Rhodri Fieldhouse was the only other Welsh player to make the cut finishing in 38th place.

PUGH TOP BOY AT TRUBSHAW

Rhys Pugh (Vale of Glamorgan) finished in 6th place at the Trubshaw Cup with rounds of 77, 80, 75 and 71. Pugh collects 44 Hugh James Points and retains his second place on the Order of Merit but has reduced his deficit to Chris Nugent to less than 6 points.

Matthew Moseley (Carmarthen) was the only other boy golfer to collect points at the Trubshaw following rounds of 87, 77, 74 and 69 for a share of 9th place and gains 29 Hugh James Order of Merit points.

Chris Nugent (Fulford Heath) stays at No 1 on the Hugh James Boys Order of Merit.

NUGENT TOP BOY AT MCEVOY & CENTRAL WALES

Chris Nugent (Fulford Heath) won the Central Wales Boys at Borth & Ynyslas and Aberdovey at the weekend with a two round total of 141 strokes, three clear of Mold’s Luke Jackson. Nugent lead from the off at Borth at maintained his lead throughout the 2nd day at Aberdovey. Nugent adds 100 Hugh James Order of Merit points to his total while Luke Jackson collects 60 points for his 2nd place finish. Holyhead’s Mark Parry collects 40 points while Richard James (Aberystwyth) gets 30 points for 4th place.

At the Peter McEvoy Trophy at Copt Heath, Nugent was the top Welsh player finishing in a tie for 10th while Rhodri Harston tied for 23rd and they collect 39 and 7 Hugh James points respectively.

Nugent moves to No 1 on the Hugh James Boys Order of Merit.

PUGH TOP BOY AT PUTTER

Rhys Pugh (Vale of Glamorgan) finished as the top junior at the Duncan Putter sharing 21st place and collecting 100 points on the Hugh James Boys’ Order of Merit. Pugh scored rounds of 72, 72, 73 and 72 for a total of 289 strokes.

Three other juniors made the cut; Matthew Moseley (Carmarthen) and Rhodri Fieldhouse (Wrexham) tied for 30th place on 295 strokes and collect 50 points each while Chris Nugent (Fulford Heath) finished on 303 strokes and collects 30 Hugh James points..
