HARRIES TOP 10 AT PLEASINGTON AND BRIDGET JACKSON

 

Becky Harries (Haverfordwest) collected top 10 finishes at the Pleasington Putter and the Bridget Jackson Bowl. Harries scored rounds of 78 and 76 to tie for 9th with Nathalee Evans (Pleasington) at the Pleasington Putter and then tied for 10th at the Bridget Jackson Bowl after rounds of 77 and 72.

 

Harries moves into 9th place on the Ladies Order of Merit while Breanne Loucks retains her position at the top of the list.

 

The next event is the British Ladies Open Stroke Play at Malone Golf Club from 20 – 22 August.

LOUCKS WINS IRISH CHAMPIONSHIP

 

Breanne Loucks extended her lead to over 200 points in the Ladies Order of Merit after victory in the Irish Women’s Open Strokeplay Championship at Elm Park. A 214 total was good enough to give Breanne a 3 stroke win over Scotland’s Roseanne Niven and 250 Order of Merit points. Breanne’s closest challenger Rhian Wyn Thomas picked up 38 points after finishing in a tie for 14th.  Jo Nicholson and Tar Davies finished just outside the points after finishing 17th and tied 21st respectively.

 

 

LOUCKS BACK AT NO 1

 

Breanne Loucks has returned to the top of the Ladies Order of Merit after reaching the last 16 of the Ladies British Open Amateur at North Berwick. Loucks collects 110 Order of Merit points. Loucks qualified comfortably in 7th place but then succumbed to Maude Aimee Leblanc of Canada on the final hole.

 

Rhian Wyn Thomas and Sahra Hassan both reached the last 32 and collect 90 points each while Tara Davies and Hannah Jenkins both qualified for the match play stages but then lost in round 1 and each collect 50 points.

 

WYN THOMAS AT NO 1

 

Rhian Wyn Thomas and Sahra Hassan were again in the points at the St Rule Trophy at St Andrews. Thomas finished in a tie for 15th with scores of 82 and 77 while Sahra Hassan tied for 19th with scores of 83 and 77 and each collect 22.5 and 13.5 points respectively.

 

At the Critchley Salver at Sunningdale Hassan tied for 3rd place alongside Bargoed’s Lucy Gould and each player collects 29.25 points.

 

Tara Davies (Holyhead) was Wales’ only scorer at the Frilford Heath Scratch Salver after a round of 74 when the tournament was curtailed due to heavy rain. Davies collects 22 points for her efforts.

 

Sahra Hassan (Vale of Glamorgan) again produced the goods at The Berkshire during the Astor Salver finishing in 2nd place after rounds of 69 and 74 and collects 60 points. Hannah Jenkins (Cradoc) finished in a tie for 6th and adds 19.33 points to her total while Lucy Gould scored rounds of 75 and 74 to finish 11th and collect 13 points. Stephanie Evans (Vale of Llangollen) shot rounds of 79 and 71 to finish tied 12th and collects 6 points.

O’CONNOR WINS WELSH CLOSED  

Kirsty O’Connor (Nelson) claimed the Welsh Ladies Close Championship at Monmouthshire by defeating Stephanie Evans (Vale of Llangollen) in the final. O’Connor who is in college in Indiana progressed to the final by defeating Laura Watkins, Sarah Morgan and then one of the pre Championship favourites, Sahra Hassan in the semi finals. O’Connor collects 250 Order of Merit points

 

Stephanie Evans collects 150 points while the losing semi finalists each collect 100 points.

 

Breanne Loucks retains her position at the top of the Order of Merit while Kirsty O’Connor moves into 4th place.

 

The next event is the St Rule Trophy at the Old Course, St Andrews on 25 May.

 

THOMAS BECOMES WELSH CHAMPION  

 

Rhian Wyn Thomas (Vale of Glamorgan) shot a final round of 71 to claim the Welsh Ladies Open Stroke Play Championship at Pyle & Kenfig. Thomas’ three round total of 228, 6 over par was four strokes clear of her nearest challenger Hannah Barwood from England. Following some steady performances this season Rhian’s break through victory earns her 300 Order of Merit points and moves her into 2nd place in the table behind Wrexham’s Breanne Loucks.

 

Tara Davies (Holyhead) continued her consistent start to the season by finishing in a tie for 7th with rounds of 79, 82 and 77 that gains her 57.5 points while Sahra Hassan adds a further 40.8 points to her total after finishing in a tie for 9th.

 

The other Welsh players to score points were Stephanie Evans (Vale of Llangollen) 13.5 points, Samantha Birks (Wolstanton), 7.5 points as well as Amy Boulden (Llandudno, Maesdu), Gemma Bradbury (Cottrell Park) and Becky Harries (Haverfordwest) who all collected 4 points.

 

The next event is the Welsh Ladies Close Championship from 18 – 21 May.

 

 

HASSAN & LOUCKS TIED 10th

 

Sahra Hassan (Vale of Glamorgan) and Breanne Loucks (Wrexham) were the leading Welsh players at the Helen Holm Trophy at Troon over the weekend. Both players shot a three round total of 221 strokes to tie for 10th place and share 40.33 Order of Merit points.

 

Tara Davies (Holyhead) was a model of consistency with rounds of 75, 74 & 75 for a three round total of 224 strokes and a tie for 21st place earning 9.5 points.

 

Wrexham’s Breanne Loucks still leads Order of Merit with Sahra Hassan in 2nd place.

 

All Welsh players making the cut gained an additional 50 points.

 

The next event is the Welsh Ladies Open Stroke Play at Pyle & Kenfig on 3/4 May.

 

 

JENKINS TIED 5TH AT ROEHAMPTON 

 

Hannah Jenkins (Cradoc) claimed 5th place at the Roehampton Scratch Cup on the weekend and doubled her points total on the Golf Union of Wales Ladies Order of Merit. Jenkins scored rounds of 76 and 77 to be the only player to collect Order of Merit points which moves her into 3rd place.

 

Wrexham’s Breanne Loucks still leads the way with Sahra Hassan in 2nd place.

 

LOUCKS WINS AGAIN 

 

Breanne Loucks (Wrexham) continued her excellent season with a six stroke victory at the Tenby Scratch Open. Loucks’ rounds of 72, 72, 6 under par held off the challenge of defending champion, Sahra Hassan (Vale of Glamorgan). Loucks’ victory gives her another 100 points on the Order of Merit while Hassan gains her first points of the season by finishing in 2nd place and collecting 60 points.

 

Amy Boulden (Llandudno Maesdu) was also in excellent form with rounds of 74 and 78 to claim 3rd place and 40 Order of Merit points.

LOUCKS DOUBLE IN SOUTH AFRICA

 

Wrexham’s Breanne Loucks continued her excellent early season form when she won the South African Ladies Stroke Play and then followed it up with another win at the South African Ladies Championship. As a result of these outstanding performances the GUW Ladies Selectors have awarded Breanne 75 points for the Stroke Play and 100 points for the Match Play. Loucks is the clear leader of the inaugural Golf Union of Wales Ladies Order of Merit.

 

At the Formby Leveret Samantha Birks of Wolstanton Golf Club was the only Welsh lady to score order of Merit points by finishing in 9th place following rounds of 77 and 76. Birks gains 15 points for her efforts and is in 2nd place in the table.
