AUSTRALIAN SPOONS
Regional Finals 2008:
North - 7th July Porthmadog GC
South - 7th July Creigiau
Wales Final - 20th September Borth & Ynyslas GC
CONDITIONS
Open to all players who are lady members of Clubs affiliated to the Golf Union of Wales. A player may enter from more than one Club, but in the event of qualifying at more than one Club, will have to indicate which Club she will represent at the Regional Final.
The preliminary round at Club level will take place during the months of April and May.
The competition will be a 18 hole Stableford Foursomes, the stroke allowance being 1/2 aggregate of the partners.
All ties shall be decided on the last 9,6,3 or 1 hole(s).
The handicap limit will be 36.
A current Handicap Certificate must be produced to verify eligibility to compete. Unless the player is able to produce proof of handicap in accordance with CONGU Regulations she will be deemed to have acted as a marker.
To be eligible to compete in the Regional Final a Club must have had at least four couples entering the competition.
The entry fee shall be £4.00 per couple.

HISTORY
In the mid 1960's the Australian Ladies' Golf Union gave the Ladies' Golf Union four pairs of beautifully boxed Spoons for competition to raise money for a fund which was then known as the International Match Fund. Initially all proceeds went to the LGU but now they go to the individual countries.
Each Home Country was given a pair of spoons and Wales were quick to set up a competition for our set of spoons, holding the first event in 1967.
On the first occasion the competition format was a Four Ball Better Ball but this proved to be most unpopular and it was immediately changed to a Greensome.
A preliminary round is played in clubs with the winners progressing to a Regional Final in either the south or the north of Wales.
From 1996 it was decided to make the format a straight foursome in order to speed up play in the Regional Finals.
From each Regional Final, six couples qualify for the All Wales Final which is held as near as possible to the last Saturday in September.
Prizes are awarded to the 1st and 2nd couples at each Regional Final. At the Final the winners receive "The Spoons" to be held until next played for and they also receive replica spoons, the runners-up receive a memento
